Eternal Spring Break

Medellin is known as “the city of eternal spring”, which is super appropriate for a spring break trip.

It got the name because the temperature is pretty close to perfect all year round. It’s come so far in innovation, development, and growth in the last 20+ years. If hearing the word “Medellin” conjures up scenes from Narcos, you’re stuck in the past. You should definitely visit and get caught up!

Medellin is sophisticated and laid-back, it’s got a perfect balance between high-energy and relaxation.  You’ll run out of time well before you run out of things to do!

The city sits in a valley surrounded by mountains.  Those views are sure to stop you in your tracks on a daily basis, and when the sun goes down, it shines like a jewel.

We’re giving you date options to line up with your kid’s spring break:

Break 1 – March 14th – March 19th

Break 2 – March 21st – March 26th

Break 3 – March 28th – April 2nd

Break 4 – April 5th – April 9th

Location: Medellin, Colombia

Our Itinerary:

Day 1

We’re diving right into spring break, literally with a Welcome Pool Party.

Get checked in and join us at the pool! It’s probably the best way to relax after a long flight and full transparency, a long ride from the airport.

After we’ve enjoyed ourselves at the pool, we’ll fill our hungry bellies at our welcome dinner.

Day 2

We’ll start the day off visiting one of my favorite coffee shops. Coffee is a THING in Colombia, I cannot let you come to this country without having a cup of their liquid gold.

You’ll also be getting a quick spanish lesson from my personal tutor, Kelly!

We aren’t expecting you to walk away as a fluent speaker but it will be nice to get exposed to the language if you haven’t already been.

After we’re caffeinated and have a few new Spanish words under our belt it’s up up up and awaaaay!

We’ll ride the metro cable up over the comunas and the mountains into Parque Arvi, a beautiful park embedded in the Andes Mountains with loads of activities and a market with samplings of local delicacies.

Hope you’re not afraid of heights (I honestly am, but I’ve made this trip so many times…it’s worth it!)

Day 3

On this day, we will take a journey outside of Medellin!

We’ll drive to the country side to climb El Penol, also known as “The Rock” and get one of the most amazing views you’ll ever see! It will be well worth the 740 steps to the top.

We’ll also stop to visit the colorful and quaint town of Guatape and get a brief lesson of the town’s history and get to wander through the town square.

Afterwards, we’ll visit a waterfall to cool off and take amazing photos!

Day 4

Day 4 will start with a visit to one of Medellin’s most culture rich neighborhoods – Communa 13.

Years ago Communa 13 was considered one of the most dangerous places in Medellin. It was full of drugs, gangs, and violence.

Today, Communa 13 is a beautiful neighborhood who celebrates its rise from darkness with vibrant and beautiful graffiti art, street dancing, laughs, delicious snacks washed down with a local beer.

We’ll tour this neighborhood with some locals and snap a few great photos!

After we soak up some histroy and beautiful street art in Comuna 13, we will head over to one of Medellin’s massive malls.

Here’s the thing, one of the best kept secrets is that the malls in Medellin are EPIC! They all have installations designed specifically for children to play and have a great time. The mall we’re going to has an amusement park in the middle of it, along with an ice skating rink!

Day 5

On this day, we’ll visit a museum.  Did you fall asleep reading that?

This particular museum is an extremely interactive STEAM based museum and it’s so fun, they can’t even call it a museum. It’s called Parque Explora – “Explore Park”.

It has an aquarium, a planetarium, and an interactive center  of science and technology with more than 300 interactive experiences spread over various rooms and experimentation spaces for everyone.

For how much there is to expore and do, the name is quite fitting.

Day 6

Unfortunately, spring break is not eternal. Not even in the City of Eternal Spring. We’ll have to say goodbye to Medellin but before you go, I’ll take you to breakfast at one of my favorite places, Crepes Y Wafles. They exclusively hire single moms and also, they make incredibly delicious food.
