We get it, an error fare hits and the Wandering Moms Facebook Community is all a buzz! The energy and excitement is real and you can’t help but pull the trigger and #bookdatish. After all, the deals can disappear just as quickly as they appear.

But before you pull the trigger, we urge you to do just one thing!

Check the country’s entry requirements

There are a number of reasons this is important:

  • Many countries require you to apply for a visa in advance (if you aren’t aware of what a visa is, read our resource on the difference between a Passport and a Visa)
  • Some countries require a certain amount of validity on your passport and a certain number of blank pages
  • Some countries require proof of vaccinations, such as a yellow fever card
  • If you’ll be traveling with children, some countries require additional documentation for minors

The requirements for minor children is especially important if you’re traveling with a minor without both parents as some countries require additional documentation for minors entering the country and you’ll want to know exactly what you need before you show up at their borders.

The US Embassy website is a good resource to start with but we strongly suggest you also visit the immigration website or the country you’re visiting for more detailed and up to date information.

This should always be Step 1 in your international trip planning. Failing to do this research up front can be both costly and devastating, as all of your trip expenses and dreams can quickly go down the drain if you’re turned away at the border.

So plan ahead and that the step to get familiar with the entry requirements!
